Hall County: Pets, students 'partner up' for 'Run with the Rescues'

By AccessWDUN staff
It won't be an ordinary training run for members of the Chestatee High School Cross Country Team this Saturday.  This time, each team member will be joined by four extra legs.

The team has partnered with the Hall County Animal Shelter for a "Run with the Rescues" event at 9 a.m. at Chestatee Middle School.  Cindy Langman, program director for the Shelter, said she heard about a similar event in California and thought the same thing could be done in Hall County.

"The dogs at the shelter need exercise and attention, and the cross country team needs practice, so I think it's the perfect partnership," said Langman.

Langman said her neighbor is a volunteer coach for the team, so she pitched the idea to him and the event was born.

"One of the runners at the California school liked the dog he ran with so much that his family ended up adopting the dog," she said.  "It would be amazing if something like that happened here, but if nothing else, I think it helps remind the community that we're here every day, serving these animals that so desperately need a home."

The Hall County Animal Shelter is currently home to approximately 300 animals.  A list of pets available for adoption can be found on Hall County's website

"Run with the Rescues" will take place at Chestatee Middle School, not Chestatee High School, although the event is in partnership with the high school team.  The middle school is located at 2740 Fran Mar Drive.
