Habersham County deputy bit by dog

A Habersham County Sheriff's Deputy needed a few stitches after she was bit by a dog while responding to a call Tuesday night.

Lt. Matt Wurtz with the Sheriff's Office said the deputy arrived on scene to the call of a dog attack and tried to intervene.

"I don't know if it was the original caller or someone else, but somebody was being bit by the dog at the time. She tried to gain control of the dog and she was bit also, which required her to go to the hospital and get three stitches," said Wurtz.

"The person that had called had gotten the dog from a friend, who had wanted him to take it to another friend, and then he was trying to load it in to the car is when the dog bit him."

Wurtz said the dog is in custody at Habersham County Animal Control.

"I do not know what the fate of the dog is going to be," Wurtz said. He said he was also unsure if the owner would face any charges in the incident.
