Gainesville to install temporary 'booster pump' for Highland Drive area

Crews will spend the next few weeks installing a temporary "booster pump" in an effort to increase water pressure to more than 36 fire hydrants along Highland Drive in North Hall.

Catiel Felts, Gainesville city spokeswoman, made the announcement Friday in a news release, adding that the project should be completed within two to three weeks.

"While we continue to implement a long-term solution to address the water pressure issues in the Highland Drive area of North Hall County, we are pleased to announce that our Department of Water Resources staff has worked this week to develop a short-term solution that will restore Fire Service to this area," said Bryan Lackey, city manager.

Utility workers have identified the location the pump will sit, and will begin prepping the area over the next few days.

A permanent booster pump station is planned; officials say it will be completed by the end of the year at a cost of $380,000.
