Softball: Big inning propels Chestatee to 7-AAAA win

CLEVELAND — Chestatee used a 6-run fourth inning to erase an early deficit en route to taking a 7-3 victory over White County Thursday in both teams' Region 7-AAAA openers.

The Lady War Eagles (10-0, 1-0 Region 7-AAAA) trailed White County (7-5, 0-1) 2-1 after the Lady Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Chestatee had a 1-0 lead in the second inning. White County trimmed the lead to 7-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth but could not cut into the lead the rest of the way.

Becca Eddins got the win for Chestatee going the distance scattering four hits but walking six. She fanned eight.

The Lady War Eagles pounded out 11 hits, led by Beth Eddins, who had three hits and one RBI from the leadoff spot.  Georgia Patterson and Hannah Jones had two hits each and Danielle Ortega had a two-run single as part of the big fourth inning for Chestatee.

Cheyenne Roper and Bailey Mason had one hit and one RBI each and Becca Eddins also had a hit for the Lady War Eagles.

White County is off until opening a home-and-home series with West Hall on Tuesday in more 7-AAAA action.

Chestatee next will play Habersham Central and Union County on Saturday in a doubleheader in Mt. Airy.
