GDOT plans lane closures on I-85/985 and merge point move on 400

By AccessWDUN staff

The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to close portions of I-85 and I-985 as crews continue work on the I-85 Express Lane extension.

All the listed lane closures will occur Thursday night through Saturday between 9 p.m and 5 a.m.

  • I-85 northbound at the I-985 interchange (including a half-mile along I-985 northbound)
  • I-85 northbound at mile marker 116, north of Ga.20
  • I-85 southbound at mile marker 115, north of Ga. 20

"Motorists are advised to slow down and proceed with caution through the work area," GDOT officials said in a press release.

GA 400 MERGE CHANGE PLANNED

Elsewhere in the region, crews plan to reposition and shorten a left lane merge on Georgia 400 Thursday evening as work continues on widening the highway in Forsyth County.

The action involves dropping the third northbound lane of travel about a half mile sooner that it is now.  The new pattern will start the three to two lane merge south of the McFarland Parkway interchange.

Workers were expected to move the merge point between 9:00 p.m. and midnight.

Officials say the move is designed to expedite final work on the project that is scheduled to open at the end of September.  The new eight-mile section of additional roadway will run from McFarland Parkway to just north of SR20.
