Suwanee holds millage rate steady; greenway project comes in under budget

Suwanee city council voted Tuesday night to hold its millage rate steady at 4.93 mills, the same rate it has been since 2012, and the rate city leaders used in the fiscal year 2017 budget.

The millage rate is expected to bring in an additional 5.18 percent in revenue from city property taxes.

"We held three public hearings, and we did not have a single person come out (for or against it)," said Marty Allen, city manager.

A home with a fair market value of $260,000 would pay approximately $25.27 more in property taxes; a $550,000 home would see a $53.46 increase.

The full, revenue-neutral rollback would have been 4.687 mills.

OTHER BUSINESS:

  • The city's Brushy Creek Greenway maintenance project came in $35,000 under budget. City council officially adopted the "change order" Tuesday that will allow the additional monies to be sent into the city's general fund. The final project cost was $559,828. Allen said the project is completely finished, except for one small concrete slab.
