A Hoschton man with strong, longtime ties to area public safety died Friday from injuries suffered in a Franklin County motorcycle wreck Wednesday.
Therion Lloyd Boyd, 70, was involved in a wreck on County Road 84 in Franklin County at 10:50 a.m. Aug. 17, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 52 in Hartwell.
At the time of the wreck, Boyd's Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling north on County Road 84 negotiating a right curve with a group of motorcycles, according to GSP.
"Driver 1 [Boyd] was following too closely, locked the brakes and lost control, causing Vehicle 1 to fishtail," according to the GSP crash report. "Vehicle 1 fell onto its right side, throwing Driver 1 [Boyd] onto the asphalt."
The investigating trooper was notified Aug. 19 that Boyd died as a result of his injuries.
County Road 84 runs between Ga. 59 and Gumlog Road, turning to dirt after it crosses Interstate 85.
Boyd retired in 2014 from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, where he was the training officer, instructor and range master. He served Jackson County for 11 years after retiring from the Gainesville Police Department after 30 years.
Additionally, Boyd was the retired assistant chief of the West Jackson Fire Department. Boyd was a founding member of the department, serving as assistant chief for 32 years as well as many years as a Fire Board member representing the City of Hoschton.
Funeral services for Therion Boyd will be held Monday, August 22 at 11 a.m. at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Hoschton.
