Volleyball: Gainesville finishes third at Forsyth Challenge

CUMMING — The Gainesville volleyball team finished on third place on Saturday in the Forsyth Challenge tournament at West Forsyth.

The Lady Red Elephants fell to West Forsyth 25-22, 25-22, defeated Stratford Academy 25-8, 25-15 and lost to Forsyth Central 25-16 13-25, 15-10 before bouncing back with a 22-25, 25-21, 15-5 win over Central in the knockout phase. Yet eventual tournament champ North Forsyth proved too much, handing GHS a 25-20, 25-17 loss.

Savannah Roys led Gainesville with 24 kills, 39 assists, 9 aces and 37 digs, while Abby Alexander added 23 kills, 6 aces and 7 blocks. Tangi Miller posted 9 kills and 3 blocks; Cori Griffith followed with 7 kills; Anna Wylie contributed 10 kills and 4 aces; Camille Holcomb had 32 assists, 5 aces and 10 digs; Caroline Mercer added 4 aces and 17 digs; Bessie Winston had 4 kills and 3 blocks; Ashley Filson accounted for 11 digs; Camille Calkins had 4 kills and 7 blocks; and Isabella Appling had 5 aces and 22 digs.

The Lady Red Elephants (4-6) travel to Mill Creek on Tuesday for a tri-match that includes Lakeview before hosting a tri-match on Thursday with Athens Academy and Clarke Central.
