Price increasing next week for some use of I-85 Express Lanes

By AccessWDUN staff
The price is going up for shorter trips during peak commuting hours in the I-85 Express Lanes starting Aug. 22.

The State Road and Tollway Authority says toll prices for various segments in the Express Lanes will increase during the most congested weekday peak times (7 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.). As such, according to the Authority, Peach Pass customers may notice an increase in the toll amounts charged for shorter distances in the Express Lanes.

A press release from the Authority says the purpose of these rate changes is to better respond to increased demand of motorists riding in the Express Lanes during peak hours, which results in congestion in the Express Lanes and compromised travel times.  Nearly 27,000 daily trips are made on the Express Lanes daily, and this number is steadily increasing, the release states.  Most of the traffic in the lanes  during the busiest times is concentrated in the middle segments of the corridor.
