Hogan in contention as he defends his AGJA Grand Championship crown

DULUTH — Gainesville's Ryan Hogan shot his way into contention in the first round of the 42nd AJGA Grand Championship at TPC Sugarloaf on Monday in Duluth.

Hogan fired a 4-over-par 76 in the three-day, 54-hole event, finishing three shots behind leader Brady Carman of Douglasville. Three others, including Drew Shell of Cumming, are one shot back at 74.

Gainesville resident Brody Simmons is also competing in the event and was tied for 28th with a 88 after the opening round.

Hogan is the defending champion from the 2015 event that was held at Chateau Elan.

The tournament comprises the top points leaders for the AJGA's 2016 Summer Series and will continue on Tuesday.
