The Gainesville Board of Education has approved a new assistant principal for Enota Multiple Intelligence Academy and a new name for Fair Street International Bacculareate Academy.

DeAnn Sams, the new assistant principal at Enota, has been with the school district since 2006 and  previously taught at Fair Street as a fifth grade teacher, has served as the school’s data specialist and grade level chair, and was Fair Street's 2010 Teacher of the Year.

The new name for Fair Street is Fair Street International Academy.  Baccalaureate is being dropped from the name, according to school officials, because, as a member of the International Baccalaureate organization, the school was required to implement the IB framework within its curriculum.

A written request was submitted to the school board by Fair Street School Governance Council Chair Shirley Lipscomb for consideration of "branding" the school with the new name change.  According to a news release from the school district, not implementing the International Baccalaureate framework within the curriculum allows Fair Street to focus solely on instruction based on the Georgia Standards of Excellence, which can result into improved student performance. Teachers at Fair Street will now be able to focus primarily on teaching the Georgia standards, utilizing instructional time more effectively, and supporting district initiatives. Some components of the IB program that would be retained within the school's curriculum are cultural awareness, internationalism, and inquiry-based/literacy-based learning.
