ATHENS — Gainesville High golfers Davis Weaver and Ryan Hogan sit in first and second on the leaderboard after the first round of the UGA Junior Classic Monday at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
Weaver fired a 1-over par 72 with five bogeys and four birdies on the day. He birdied Nos. 2, 12, 16, and 17 while taking bogeys on No.s 3, 7, 9, 11, and 18.
He leads fellow Red Elephant goler Hogan by four strokes. Hogan shot a 5-over 76 posting bogeys on 8, 9, 13, 14, and 16 to go with a double-bogey on No. 7. Hogan birdied Nos. 11 and 17 to stay one shot ahead of Tommy Chun of Suwanee.
The 27-player field will hit the course Tuesday for the second round.
