Ralston falls back at Players Amateur after rough second round

BLUFFTON, S.C. — It was a rough second round of the 17th annual Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall Golf Club’s South Course for Gainesville's Spencer Ralston.

One day after a firing a a 4-under par 68, Ralston struggled with seven bogeys, one double-bogey and just two birdies to card a 7-over 79 on Saturday for a two-day total of 147, which dropped him 11 shots behind the leaders.

Ralston, an upcoming freshman at Georgia, was at 4-under par after the second hole but bogeys on Nos. 3 and 4 and a double-bogey on No. 5 to fall back to even-par. He birdied No. 6 but bogeyed No. 9 to stay at even-par. Ralston birdied No. 14 but that was sandwiched by bogeys at 11, 12, 15, and 18.

Cheng Jin leads after the second round with an 8-under par 136. Clemson golfer and ACC Freshman of the Year Bryson Nimmer was one-shot back at 7-under after the second round.
