Drought conditions worsen, now cover all of north Georgia

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
Drought conditions in Georgia continue to worsen and now encompass all of north Georgia.

The U.S. Drought Monitor says from the Alabama line eastward to South Carolina and from the Tennessee state line to the southern part of metro Atlanta, a "moderate" drought now exists.  Three weeks ago, drought conditions were reported in only a handful of north Georgia counties.

Meanwhile, a few counties between metro Atlanta and the Macon area are considered "abnormally" dry along with a small pocket of counties in east central Georgia near Augusta.

The rest of the state is drought-free.
