Thousands head to Franklin County for Memorial Day Weekend Gospel Singing

CARNESVILLE — One of the largest outdoor Gospel singings in the Southeast is bringing people by the thousands to rural Northeast Georgia this weekend.

Indian Creek Baptist Church near Carnesville is hosting its 16th-annual Memorial Day Weekend Gospel Singing this weekend on the church grounds off Ga. 51.

The event kicked off Thursday night with Josh and Ashley Franks, Ivan Parker, and Karen Peck & New River, and continues throug the weekend with a different lineup of top names in Gospel music each day.

Today at 7 p.m. the lineup will incude The McKameys, The Inspirations, The Rochesters, and The Diplomats.

Saturday's concert begins at 6 p.m. with Greater Vision, The Mark Trammell Quartet, and The Guardians.

Danny Jones, executive director of the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and editor of The Singing News, is serving as master of ceremonies.

Admission for the concerts is $12. Those attending can bring lawn chairs or use metal folding chairs provided by the church.

The singing is held under a 1,500-seat tent on the grounds of the church, located at 11091 Old Federal Road, Carnesville, and goes on rain or shine. Old Federal Road (Ga. 51) is Exit 160 off Interstate 85.

Sunday morning, The Primitive Quartet will peform at 11:00.
