Hall school among those receiving grants from Tanger Outlets

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
A Hall County school, North Hall Middle, is one of six schools in the area named recipients of a Tanger KIDS Grant.

Russ Crain, a teacher at North Hall wrote and submitted the grant application described as “Active Lab Experiences” which requested $750 for materials and equipment for students in lab science teams to record and document all aspects of their experiments.   The documented recordings will then be used to formulate powerpoint presentations to be given to the entire class.

According to Crain, “One of my main personal goals as a teacher is to find ways to form accurate understandings of what my students know and what their abilities are in terms of application.  This proposed project in our grant application will help me achieve that goal.  We are very excited to receive the grant and can’t wait to get the new program started.”

For every coupon book sold, Tanger has earmarked one dollar for the TangerKIDS Grants program.
Funding for TangerKIDS Grants ranges from $3,000 to $7,500 per center to be split between multiple grant requests.

“A substantial part of our mission at Tanger Outlets is to contribute positively to the communities in which we operate,” said Steven B. Tanger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tanger Outlets. “A high quality education is instrumental to enhancing communities and we are proud to once again give back to these remarkable schools as part of our efforts to support students and educators across the country.”

Other area schools receiving grants this year include Cedar Shoals High School in Clarke County, East Jackson County Comprehensive High School and East Jackson Middle School in Jackson County, Jefferson Elementary/Academy in Jefferson, and the Banks County Elementary School in Banks County.

According to a Tanger news release, since the company’s inception, it has dedicated efforts to assist students in local communities from pre-school through high school by raising money that is used to purchase books and supplies, computers and new technology, athletic and playground equipment, and to fund reading programs and educational field trips in addition to many other important educational projects. To date, Tanger Outlets has raised and donated in excess of $540,000 since 2012.
