Forsyth County renames roads in memory of fallen fire department personnel

By AccessWDUN staff

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recently paid tribute to three the three line-of-duty deaths the Forsyth County Fire Department has experienced since its inception. Roads renamed as a way to memorialize and honor Allyn Lane, Dennis C. Martin and Brant Chesney.

  • Lane was a volunteer firefighter for Forsyth County who died in an automobile accident en route to his fire station to respond to a call in 1975. The roadway leading into Shady Grove Campground is designated as “Allyn Lane Memorial Way.”
  • Martin was a volunteer firefighter for Forsyth County who died in an automobile accident en route to his fire station to respond to a call in 1984. The roadway leading into Coal Mountain Park is designated as “Dennis C. Martin Memorial Way.”
  • Chesney was a full-time firefighter with Gwinnett County and a volunteer firefighter for Forsyth County who died in the line of duty in 1996 while battling a structure fire in Forsyth County. The roadway along Forsyth County Fire Station 10 on Old Atlanta Road is designated as “Brant Chesney Way.”
