White County youths seriously injured when dirt bikes collide

UPDATED: Two White County youths were airlifted after their dirt bikes collided about 12:45 p.m. Sunday.

The crash between two Yamaha CCR 125 dirt bikes occurred in a heavily-wooded area of a dirt bike trail on Far Winds Road, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.

"Both drivers misjudged their clearance and contact was made between the left side of vehicle 1 and the left side of vehicle 2," wrote Cpl. Auston Allen.

After the initial impact, the first dirt bike, operated by Skylar Bassett, 13, of Cleveland, left the trail and struck a large tree with its front end. The operator then was ejected from the bike and struck the tree, according to Allen.

The second dirt bike, operated by Joey Rivard, 12, of Cleveland, overturned and ejected the operator.

Both boys were airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
