LOCUST GROVE — North Hall earned a split with No. 1 Locust Grove Wednesday in the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs and will have a chance to knock off the Wildcats on Thursday.

The Trojans beat Locust Grove 4-1 in the opening game while the Wildcats (26-3-1) returned the favor in Game 2 with a 9-1 victory. The two teams will play a deciding Game 3 at 4 p.m. Thursday with a quarterfinal berth on the line.

In Game 1, North Hall got strong pitching from Reese Olson, who went 6 innings and faced the minimum through 5 innings. He finished allowing just one hit. Drew Atha came on in the seventh after a lead off double to close it out and earn the save.

John Mark Montgomery and Jake Chester lead the offense with two hits apiece.

In Game 2, Locust Grove pounded out 12 hits and all nine runs against Corbin Meeler and reliever Dylan Lavender. It was just a 1-0 lead until the Wildcats exploded for eight runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. The Trojans managed just six hits.

Thursday's winner will face Heritage, Catoosa, which swept past Wayne County on Wednesday.
