The Lake Lanier Olympic Venue is full of paddlers from across the nation this weekend as the Hall County venue hosts the 2016 Sprint Canoe and Kayak National Team Trials.

"It's great because even though it's a small event, these people have come as far as Seattle, Hawaiim Washington DC, San Diego, Oklahoma City," said Mike Braff, president of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club.

Over 100 rowers registered for the trials. "We were expecting 75 and we had 103 register, including about 15 para-atheletes," Braff said.

Several members of the local team hoping to win competitions this weekend and move closer to spots on the 2016 US Olympic Team, according to Braff.

Events are free and open to the public this weekend at the Olympic Center on Clarks Bridge Road. Next week the Olympic Center will continue to play host as another 100 or so atheletes come in for the Canadian National Team selection trials.
