Unemployment insurance claims down in Georgia; unchanged in Gainesville

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
First-time unemployment insurance claims were down in Georgia last month, compared to February, but unchanged in Gainesville.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says claims statewide decreased 4.6 percent in March.

Most metropolitan areas reported increases, however, led by Warner Robins at 31.3 percent, with Dalton (31 percent) and Rome (21.3 percent) rounding out the top three. Hinesville (10.1 percent), Valdosta (8.5 percent) and Brunswick (5.4 percent) led those areas reporting fewer claims.
