Davenport snags Spring Nationals victory at Senoia

By Chris Tilley

SENOIA, Ga. - Jonathan Davenport collected his first career Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series victory on Friday Night at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Ga., taking home $4,000 for the victory.

Davenport of Blairsville, Georgia, drove the car normally driven by Randy Weaver to the victory and became the 18th different winner in series history and the second different winner in two series events this season.

Chris Madden started on the pole with a new track record, with Kenny Collins starting on the outside. On the drop of the green, Madden jumped out to an early lead, pacing the first 11 laps of the 40 lap feature.

The first caution of the night flew when Shanon Buckingham spun on the front stretch. On the restart, Madden got shuffled to the top and surrendered the lead to Collins.

Collins lead was short lived, as Davenport took over the top spot one lap later. He would pace the race for the next five laps, when Madden reclaimed the lead.

Madden and Davenport worked their way around lapped traffic until lap 26, when Davenport retook the lead. Two more cautions slowed the event on lap 16 and lap 31 for David Payne coming to a stop.

Meanwhile, Davenport continued to hold the lead, and went on to score the victory. Madden finished in second, with Kenny Collins in third, Aaron Ridley in fourth and Shane Clanton in fifth.

Joe Armistead, Casey Roberts, Cody King, Michael Page and Donald McIntosh rounded out the top ten.

The Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series was slated to run a 50 lap feature at Senoia Raceway on Saturday night, but that event was postponed to Saturday, April 23.

Next up for the series is a trip to Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee for a $10,000 to win event on April 15.
