By AccessWDUN Staff

DEMOREST — In the final game of the series for Piedmont and Ferrum, it was the Panthers who came away victorious thanks to a five-run fifth inning that saw them take a 6-0 lead in an eventual 8-5 win for the visitors. The loss gave Ferrum the series victory and moved the Lions' record to 4-8 in conference play with two series remaining before the conference tournament.

A sac-fly in the top of the second put the Panthers in front 1-0 but it was the fifth inning when the bats came alive as both teams scored five runs in the frame. The scoring started with a two-run home run for Ferrum and ended with a two-run shot for Piedmont.

The Panthers scored their five in the fifth on three hits and three walks as the three walks accounted for the final runs after the home run. Piedmont scored five on five hits as they saw a Jake Browning single lead it off, then Chris White tripled to score Browning for the Lions' first run.

Brady Ballstadt then doubled to send White home making it 6-2 before an Evan Gresham sac fly scored another run. Davidson's home run was the final scoring play of the day for the Lions as it was 6-5 after the fifth inning.

Both Will Skidmore and Breck Davidson finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored as well. Panthers' starter Cliff Alexander earned the win while Ross Martin took the loss for the Lions after pitching four complete.

The Lions will be on the road taking on No. 6 Randolph-Macon on March 31 before a weekend series against N.C. Wesleyan on the road.
