During a rally in Atlanta this week, University of North Georgia professor Matthew Boedy spoke about what a passed campus carry bill would mean for higher education.
"Whether they are trained or not, or over 21 years old or not, the presence of guns would radically change classroom discussions and faculty office discussions," Boedy said.
Boedy, an assistant professor of rhetoric and composition at UNG's Gainesville campus, believes that allowing guns on campus would strain higher education.
"My classroom is a fundamental safe space for students and professors to have a relationship that is unique. To me, guns would radically change, in a negative way, that relationship."
The bill would allow anyone at least 21 years or older to carry a gun on campus grounds, with some exclusions, if they have a carry license. The bill now awaits the signature of Governor Nathan Deal. He has until May 3 to sign the bill into action - or to veto it.
