White County seeking applicants for vacant BOE seat

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio

CLEVELAND — The White County Board of Education has begun the process of filling a vacancy on the board created by the recent resignation of Roger Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick recently stepped down to make a run for Georgia's Ninth District congressional post.

Thursday night, Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson provided the board with an update.

Wilson said a notice has been published in the county legal organ seeking candidates for this position, from which the board will make a selection.

Wilson said residents in District 2 will have 10 days to submit their request for consideration.

The board of education will choose from those requesting consideration.

That appointee will fill the vacant position until a special election can be conducted in November. The winner of that election will fill the remaining two years of Fitzpatrick’s term.

Qualifying for the special election will be announced by White County Probate Judge and Election Superintendent Garrison Baker.
