Unpaid Hall County property tax bills incur penalty in March

The deadline to make full payment on unpaid property tax bills in Hall County is quickly approaching.

According to information from Hall County Tax Commissioner Darla Eden, if the bills are not paid by March 1, they will incur a state-mandated 10-percent penalty, starting the next day.

"Our tax bills are mailed Oct. 1 and are due Dec. 1 each year. We make many efforts to remind taxpayers of due dates. We have already mailed reminder letters, but further collection efforts could result in the taxpayer facing additional fees and costs," said Eden.

"Our office accepts partial payments, and we do encourage taxpayers to make as many payments as needed to pay off the balance; however, penalties and interest continue to accrue on the outstanding balance."

In addition to the 10-percent penalty levied on March 2, state statute also adds 1-percent interest on unpaid principle starting on the due date (Dec. 1) and continues monthly until property tax is paid in full.

Eden said any account with an outstanding balance will be subject to a lien.

The Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office, located at the county government building at 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville, is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
