8-A Tournament: Randolph shoots Lakeview into finals; Lady Lions rout George Walton to punch finals ticket

ATHENS — Josh Randolph hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds left to lift Lakeview Academy to a thrilling 41-40 win over Prince Avenue Friday night in the semifinals of the Region 8-A Tournament at Athens Academy.

The Lions (23-4) held a six-point lead late but watched as Prince Avenue rallied to take a 40-39 lead in the final 30 seconds. But Randolph was fouled, setting up the game-winning shots.

The win tied the school-record in wins for a season with the 2012 team that finsihed 23-6.

Lakeview Academy next will take on Hebron Christian 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the region title at the Athens Academy gym. Hebron knocked off Athens Christian 42-40 in overtime in the other semifinal matchup.

Tre Gober paced the Lions with 17 points. Daniel Fadool added five assists for Lakeview.

The Lady Lions trailed the Lady Bulldogs 11-8 after the first quarter but junir Ryann Moody hit a pair of 3-pointers to give Lakeview Academy the lead for good as part of a 21-6 second quarter run. Lakeview Academy took a 29-17 lead into the half and blew the game open in the second half.

The Lady Lions (21-6) will go for the region title on Saturday taking on Athens Christian in the championship game at 6 p.m. at the Athens Academy gym.

Moody finished with 15 points to pace Lakeview Academy. Christen Copeland added 12 points and Hanna Grogan 11 points for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview's girls will battle Athens Christian for the girls title at 6 p.m. Saturday in Athens.
