DAHLONEGA — The University of North Georgia men's basketball team's second half rally came up just short as the Nighthawks fell 83-78 to Georgia Southwestern in Peach Belt action on Wednesday in Memorial Hall. The Nighthawks were able to trim a 20-point second half deficit down to a single possession late, but GSW was able to escape with the league victory.

Ebo Smith's season-high 20 points led the offensive effort for UNG as the sophomore guard deposited 3-of-5 shots from long distance. Michael Varrichone added a season-high of his own with 19 points and six rebounds.

T.J. Williams pitched in with 15, while Sean Brennan added 10 points and five assists.

After trailing by as many as 20 with just over 14 minutes remaining, the Nighthawks would battle all the way back to trail by just three on a dunk by Williams with 35 seconds remaining. Five free throws in the final 25 seconds by Adam Thoseby would seal the victory for GSW.

North Georgia entertains Georgia College on Saturday (Feb. 13) at 3:30 p.m. as part of UNG Athletics Hall of Fame and Homecoming 2016 festivities.
