LEXINGTON — The Riverside Military basketball team completed an impressive regular season on Saturday.
The Eagles clinched the top seed from Region 8-AA and notched the state tournament berth that came with it courtesy a 50-40 defeat of Oglethorpe County in Lexington. It represents Riverside's first state tournament appearance since the 2009-10 season.
Davis Short paced Riverside with 18 points, while Javon Thompson added 11 points in the win.
The Eagles inched ahead 6-5 after the first quarter only to fall behind, 17-15 at the half. But Riverside fought back ahead in the third quarter, 38-30, and never looked back.
The Eagles will next compete in the Region 8-AA tourney hosted by Rabun County next week.
