Fair Street school hears from pro wrestler as part of Classroom Champions program

By AccessWDUN staff
Fair Street IB World School welcomed guest speaker Alan Jones (aka AJ Styles), a professional wrestler in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Friday in conjunction with the Classroom Champions program.  Jones spoke with second grade students on the topic of perseverance.

Classroom Champions is a mentoring program that targets grades K- 8 and brings Olympians, Paralympians and Olympic/Paralympic games hopefuls into the classroom using videos and live chats.  Each athlete mentor adopts 3-to-10 classrooms per year. Focusing on their own personal journey, athletes teach students about the hard work of training, goal setting, competition and perseverance.

Through video lessons and live video chats, students are engaged with their athlete mentor several times per month. Classroom Champions supports teachers by helping them incorporate activities into their curriculum, focusing on letter writing, reading, geography, math, technology, goal setting and leadership.  Fair Street has participated in this program since 2009.
