Habersham wreck claims life of one, injures two

CORNELIA — One person died as a result of a two-vehicle wreck on Pea Ridge Road outside Cornelia just before 5:15 p.m. Thursday.

A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling south on Pea Ridge Road and attempting to turn left into a private driveway, said Trooper 1st Class Jesse Lewis of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa. A 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal was traveling north on Pea Ridge Road.

Lewis said the truck failed to yield to the oncoming car, striking it head-on in the northbound travel lane.

The driver of the truck was restrained with a seatbelt and refused medical treatment, Lewis said. The driver of the car was restrained with a seatbelt and suffered a fatal injury.

Both passengers in the car were taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries are unknown at this time, Lewis said.

The truck had front airbag deployment. Lewis said there were no airbags in the car.

Names are being withheld at this time pending notification of next to kin.
