CLEVELAND — The Truett McConnell men's basketball team held the No. 13 scoring team in the nation, Montreat College, averaging 91 points per game, to just 63 points Wednesday night but couldn't pull off the upset win, falling 63-58.

The Bears dominated the game in the paint and off the bench, outscoring the Cavaliers 32-26 in the paint and 28-16 in bench points.

After trailing by five at halftime, 30-25, the Bears came out with the same defensive intensity as in the first half. Only seven Cavaliers finished with points in the scoring column, but the three pointer was key for Montreat. The Cavs hit nine of their 26 shots from distance, while TMU went just 5-of-19.

Sandale James led the Bears with 14 points off the bench, while Jacob Booke added 10. Kai Lambert finished with nine points and five rebounds.

The Bears will hit the road for the final four games of 2016, starting with a trip to Bluefield on Saturday. Tip is slated for 4 p.m.
