Roads closed from Rock Mountain Fire begin to reopen

Starting at 1 a.m. Monday, all road closures in the Nantahala Ranger Distrcit will be lifted.
 
An email from the district states all trail closures with one exception will be lifted, and only one area closure will remain.
 
The trial that remains closed is the Appalachian Trail from the Georgia/North Carolina line, north to Mooney Gap. The area reamining closed is the blackened fire footprint of the Rock Mountain Fire, south of Standing Indian Campground, west of Forest Service Road 67 and east of Forest Service Road 7219.
 
The Appalachian Trail from Dicks Creek Gap/US 76 in Georgia to Mooney Gap in North Carolina remains closed as well in the Nantahala District/Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.
 
As of this morning, the Rock Mountain Fire was 93 percent contained.
