Officials arrest two after three-month drug investigation in Stephens County

Officers arrested two people, seizing drugs, guns and vehicles after serving a search warrant in Stephens County on Monday.

The Stephens County Sheriff's Office and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office initiated a search warrant at Jamie Savage's home on Long Circle in Toccoa, according to a information from ARDEO Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey.

The investigation was based on multiple tips from the community, and lasted three months, according to Posey.

Ronald James Savage, 40, and Carey Lee Wilbanks, 37, both of Toccoa, were arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of Schedule IV drug with intent to distribute, and possession of firearm in the commission of a felony. They were booked in at the Stephens County Detention Center.

Seized during Monday's search included 180 grams of crystal methamphetamine and a quantity of Alprazolam, a Schedule IV pharmaceutical, also packaged for distribution, along with a small quantity of marijuana. Estimated street value of the seized drugs is $18,000, according to ARDEO. Also seized were 10 firearms and four vehicles.
