Deputy US Marshal killed in line of duty to be remembered at Saturday funeral

Funeral services will be held this Saturday for a Deputy U.S. Marshal from Hall County killed Friday in southeast Georgia.

Patrick Carothers of Flowery Branch was with a team of other officers in Long County trying to arrest a man with a history of targeting police, according to authorities. The suspect was cornered in a mobile home, when he opened fire and killed Carothers. The suspect, Dontrell Montese Carter, was shot and killed by law enforcement.
 
Carothers, who was 53, will be remembered at a 2 p.m. service in The Long Forum of Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross; he will be buried in Luray, Virginia.
 
An obituary announcement from Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford said Carothers was born at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was a 1982 graduate of Luray High School in Luray, VA and a 1986 graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology. He was employed with the U. S. Marshals Service and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. The family is asking that memorial donations be made to the U. S. Marshals Survivors Benefit Fund, P. O.
