Junior golfers excel in first day of Gainesville City Junior Open

GAINESVILLE — Junior golfers from around northeast Georgia competed in the fist round of the 2016 Gainesville City Junior Open on Saturday at Chattahoochee Golf Club. The Championship is a 36-hole stroke play event with 3 boys divisions and 1 girls division and includes 52 competitors. 
 
Josh Ledford of Canton took the lead in the boys ages 10-13 division after day one, recording a fine first round of even par 72. Currently in second place is Ryan Davidson of Flowery Branch (73) followed by Adian Cohl of Lawrenceville (75). 
 
The boys, 14-15 division is led by Jackson Buchanan of Dacula with an opening round 75. In second is Drew Shell of Cumming (76), followed by Luke Ledford of Canton (77) 
 
Ethan Unverzagt of Milton and John Baker of Cumming are tied for the lead in the boys ages 16-18 division with first round 73s. North Hall's Brennan Manson is one shot back in third place with a 74.
  
In the girls division, Maddie Horinek of Blairsville has a two-shot lead after opening with a 77. Alison Crenshaw of Suwanee is in second with 79, followed by Adrian Hopkins  of Lawrenceville and Sydney Roberts of Buford tied for third at 84. 
 
The final round will be held on Sunday. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. The public is welcome to attend.
