Ellis nabs Southern All Star win at Talladega Short Track

By Series PR

EASTABOGA, Ala. - The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series concluded its 2016 season Saturday night with a first time winner, as Derek Ellis led all 40 lap to take the victory at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama.

The win was worth $4,000 to the Chatsworth, Georgia speedster, as he became the fourth first time series winner of the season.

Ellis started on the pole alongside Riley Hickman, with Ellis jumping to the lead on the drop of the green flag. Ellis then worked his way through lapped traffic and also to survive several restarts due to caution flags.

Midway through the race, Michael Page looked to have something for leader, but could never get around him to take over the top spot. Page had to settle for second, with Hickman taking third. Jonathan Davenport finished in fourth, with Todd Morrow in fifth.

Austin Smith, Devin Moran, Tim Roszell, Jason Hiett and Jake Knowles rounded out the top ten.

All results are unofficial until certified by race officials.

With the season ending, Riley Hickman became the first driver to win the series championship four years in a row. He has now tied Clint Smith with four series titles.
