Hall County School Board votes to extend superintendent's contract

By B.J. Williams
Will Schofield will continue as the Superintendent of the Hall County School District following a contract extension vote Monday night by the county school board.

School Board Chairman Nath Morris confirmed the contract for Schofield includes a base salary of $209,000.

"We had worked out some details in a previous contract to get the superintendent up to a salary which was comparable and competitive with some of the other districts...and also size of system," Morris said.

He said the agreement was retroactive from the start of the fiscal year on July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2019.

In addition, Schofield will be eligible for the same percentage annual pay increase that classroom teachers receive. Morris said bonuses are part of the compensation package, as well.

"During the superintendent evaluation, he can earn up to a $3,000 bonus based on meeting or exceeding goals that we [the school board] set through the balanced scorecard - goals that may pertain to reading or graduation rate or something like that," Morris said.

"Will has done pretty much everything we've asked him to," Morris said. "He's done a lot for the system, has improved the system, has supported the teachers...and is doing things that are right for the kids."

Schofield has been superintendent for the Hall County School District for the past 12 years.
