UNG women's soccer slams Georgia Southwestern, 8-0

AMERICUS — The 12th-ranked University of North Georgia women's soccer team made quick work of Georgia Southwestern Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field, scoring the game-winning goal in the opening five minutes of the match on the way to an 8-0 victory. The Nighthawks improve to 10-1-2 on the season with a 7-1-1 record in the Peach Belt Conference.

Rachel VanHorn once again led the Nighthawk attack with the first goal of the match in the 5th minute as the forward took advantage of a scramble in front of the goal and put her shot over the keeper to give UNG the early lead. Mollie Arrendale netted her second goal of the season in the 12th as she headed in a cross from Megan Gil. Alex Bowen joined the fun in the 34th scoring off a corner kick from Rosie Embley, to give North Georgia the 3-0 that it would take into halftime.

The Nighthawks doubled their lead early in the second half scoring three goals in a span of just over three minutes with Jacy Ramey finding the back of the net in the 51st, Michaela Sundstrom scoring in the 52nd, and Jessica Allen joining the club in the 54th to give UNG a 6-0 lead. Rachel VanHorn added another goal in the 62nd minute on a breakaway and Daizah Patterson scored the eighth and final goal of the game off a Brynn Finneran corner kick in the 83rd.
