GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville volleyball team saw its postseason hopes come to an end on Wednesday, as the Lady Red Elephants fell to Cambridge 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-13, 25-15) in the second round of the Class AAAAAAA playoffs.

Sydney King led Gainesville with 21 digs, while Savannah Roys added 23 assists, 16 digs, and 2 blocks. Tangi Miller also had 6 kills for the Lady Red Elephants, and Abby Alexander had 3 kills. Cori Griffith added 5 kills; Anna Wylie had 6 kills and 5 blocks; Camille Holcomb had 8 digs; Caroline Mercer added 7 digs; Isabella Appling had 7 digs and Olivia Gettys had 6 kills.

Seniors King, Miller, Griffith, Mercer, Bessie Winston and Jada Johnson ended their GHS volleyball careers tonight with the loss. Over their tenure, they collected the program's first region title (2015), won its first Hall County Championship (2016), and made the GHSA state playoffs three out of four years --including back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances.

The Lady Red Elephants finished 30-21 on the 2016 campaign.
