North Ga. Tech reports record fall-semester enrollment in its dual enrollment program

North Georgia Technical College set a new fall-semester record with its Move on When Ready dual enrollment program numbers for fall 2016. Enrollment in the program increased 80 percent over last fall, seeing an increase from 238 students to 430, according to NGTC Director of Admissions Michele Shirley.

Move on When Ready is a dual enrollment program which allows high school students in 9th through 12th grades to earn college credit while working on their high school diploma. Tuition, fees and books are covered by the program. Students may enroll in general education or technical education courses with approval from their high school guidance counselor.

“We are very excited about our increase in enrollment for fall 2016,” said Dr. Mark Ivester, President of NGTC. “Enrolling in this program is a win-win situation for parents and students. The parents appreciate the zero tuition and the students earn the opportunity to take a college class that will transfer to other colleges. They can also experience college demands at an earlier age to determine what college track may be best for them after high school graduation.”

Another benefit of the dual enrollment program is that the courses students take while still in high school will not count against their HOPE scholarship program hours, according to school officials.

For fall 2016, NGTC also saw an increase in numbers for overall total enrollment from all three campuses – Clarkesville, Blairsville and Currahee. NGTC realized a 6.6 percent increase in students with a total enrollment of 2,843 for fall 2016 semester.

“Our students are realizing the value of an education from NGTC in the workforce,” said Dr. Ivester. “There is a high demand for these workplace skills, and our college is dedicated to making sure each student is successful, inside the classroom to graduation to finding that technical job to meet their goals. We love to see our students succeed.”
