New sidewalks installed on Floyd Road in Hall County

By AccessWDUN Staff
More sidewalks have been added to Floyd Road following meetings between area residents, Hall County staff and District 4 Commissioner Jeff Stowe.

Concerns regarding pedestrian safety in the heavily-walked area led to the construction of sidewalks in 2012 along Old Athens Road and Floyd Road until its intersection with Garden Drive.  Earlier this year, the Hall County Board of Commissioners approved a nearly $116,000 contract with Atlantis Commercial Group, Inc. to extend those sidewalks from Garden Drive to the end of Floyd Road.

"In addition to providing a walking path for citizens, the project also addressed several drainage issues along the roadway and included the construction of a 145-foot-long retaining wall," said Hall County Civil Engineer Jason Skarda.

The most recent installment, which encompasses 2,750 linear feet of sidewalk, was completed this summer.

"As Hall County embarks on the latest update to its comprehensive plan, I hope managing growth in this area will continue to be a priority," Stowe said in a press statement from the county.  "There is much more work that needs to be done, but I think this sidewalk project is an example of the progress that can happen when elected officials and citizens work together on a common goal."
