A new $38,000 "Quick Response Vehicle" (QRV) was put into service Monday by Hall County Fire Services in an effort to provide better service to more densely populated areas.
The funding is coming from a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
"QRVs respond to those calls that have a high incidence of non-transport, patient evaluations, falls with no report of injury, and also augment the response of Basic Life Support (BLS) transport units," said Cpt. Zachary Brackett in a press release.
The department conducted a pilot program in October 2015 that showed 71 percent of calls answered by the QRVs freed up other services the department offers, something Brackett said makes their services more effective.
"The addition of this QRV will allow Hall County Fire Services to provide emergency medical services in a more efficient and cost effective manner to the citizens," said Brackett.
The new vehicle will be based out of Fire Station 7 on E. Crescent Drive, Gainesville.
