Motorcyclists charged after crash on Toccoa airport runway

TOCCOA - Warrants have been taken on two motorcyclists involved in a crash at the airport in Toccoa last weekend.

According to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa, the wreck happened on the runway of R.G. LeTourneau Field at the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.

Several motorcycles were trespassing on the runway at the time of the crash.

According to GSP, a 2007 Suzuki GSXR-600 motorcycle driven by 22-year-old Christian D. Chadd of Toccoa was traveling west on the runway of the airport.

A 2015 Suzuki GSXR-750 driven by 20-year-old Kanler C. Haley of Lavonia was traveling north on the runway and struck the left side of Chadd's motorcycle with its front, then overturned and slid from the center of the runway, coming to rest on the grassy area off the west side of the runway.

Upon impact, Chadd's motorcycle overturned and came to rest just north of the area of impact, then he left the scene. He then was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center due to what GSP called severe trauma to his hand.

Haley was transported to Stephens County Hospital.

Other motorcycles left the scene after the collision.

Warrants were taken, charging Chadd with reckless driving, hit and run, and criminal trespass; and charging Haley with reckless driving and criminal trespass.
