Suwanee City Council to hold public hearing on proposed downtown development

SUWANEE - A public hearing is set for Tuesday at Suwanee City Hall for residents to weigh in on a proposed $46.5 million downtown development.

Council members opted to delay the vote at their meeting August 25 after a citizen's group voiced their opposition to the city.

The group identifies itself as "Save Suwanee Town Center" on Facebook, and has more than 500 "likes."

The redevelopment, according to a press release from the city, would bring 235 apartments and 10,000 square feet of commercial, retail and restaurant space to the area near the intersection of Buford Highway and Chicago Street, immediately south of the Town Center Park.

The single, five-story building would be built around a parking garage.

The city is working with Atlanta-based developer Terwilliger-Pappas on the proposed project.

Anybody wanting to weigh in on the matter can do so Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Suwanee City Hall, located in Town Center Park.
