Kentucky man identified as victim in Banks Crossing pedestrian accident

COMMERCE — A Kentucky man was the victim of a pedestrian accident at Banks Crossing late Tuesday night, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

GSP Cpl. Auston Allen said Jeffrey Poynter, 46, of Cave City was crossing State Route 15 (US 441) near Hampton Court when he was struck by a tractor trailer driven by Patrick Hubbard, 43, of The Woodlands, Texas. Allen said Poynter was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
The fatal accident happened at 9:50 p.m., and Allen said there was no lighting in the area. He said the victim was wearing dark-colored clothing, making him difficult to see.
 
Allen said no charges will be filed against the truck driver.
 
He said investigators do not believe alcohol was involved on the part of the victim or the driver.
