Tax free weekend gives Gainesville shoppers more bang for their buck

GAINESVILLE — As we prepare to send kids back to school after a summer of fun, parents can catch a little break during the annual sales tax exempt holiday.

Georgia shoppers can pick up clothes, school supplies and computers without tax this weekend. Clothes are limited to each piece under $100, school supplies under $20 each and computers under $1000.

One shopper and her mother were spending some time together on the downtown Gainesville Square before she went back to school.

"It's making me want to go back," said the shopper. "It stretches your dollar," her mother added. Their next stop was for a new pair of shoes.

And, a new Hall County resident was overjoyed to find out her purchases at Walmart qualified for the tax exemption.

"We were really surprised, we came from California, and everything is so expensive there," said a shopper at Walmart. "We have six kids, and it made a huge difference in our shopping experience this year." She said it was their second trip to Walmart that day, and she had other shopping trips planned this weekend.

The tax free weekend lasts through Saturday.
