Permit suspended at ropes course where Cumming teen fatally injured

By Associated Press

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee has suspended the operating permit at a Knoxville ropes course after an 18-year-old from Cumming, Georgia was fatally injured there last week.

Police say Gregory Horan died at the University of Tennessee Medical Center Wednesday night. That was a week after he slipped at the Ijams Nature Center course and fell with a safety cord wrapped around his neck.

He was not breathing and did not have a pulse when he was lowered to the ground and freed from his harness.

An autopsy was performed Thursday, but preliminary results were not yet available.

Meanwhile, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1LUFtoM ) that an inspection Monday found a key component of the course is unsafe. The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development temporarily suspended the permit Thursday.
