Supporters of Gainesville boy with rare disease to host blood drive

GAINESVILLE - The family of a four-year-old Gainesville boy with a rare disease is hosting a blood drive and fundraiser to support medical needs and bills.

Four-year-old Jeremiah Nash was diagnosed with a rare platlet dysfunction at five-months-old that makes him subject to uncontrollable bleeding, forcing him to undergo hospital treatment at least every 14 days in order to stay alive.

Along with partnering with organization Be A Match to find a bone marrow transplant donor that may be a cure for the condition, Jeremiah's family is hosting a blood drive Friday, July 31 from 10 a.m.until 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Gainesville.

Jeremiah's mother, Beronica Nash, is asking that the community donate blood as much blood as possible at the drive for not only Jeremiah, but all of those that are in need of blood.

"I'm doing it not just for Jeremiah, because of course it wont all go to him, but Im doing it to help others,"said Nash. "My goal is 25 donors, if I can get 25 donors that will save 75 lives. More than that and I will be over-joyed."

Jeremiah's family has also setup a Go Fund Me account so that donations can be made to assist with medical costs.
