More than 200 rabbits being removed from Gwinnett property

GRAYSON — Gwinnett County authorities said more than 200 rabbits are being removed from a property on Bennett Road in Gwinnett County.

Authorities were alerted to a rabbit overcrowding situation at a petting zoo business after a complainant said he had picked up a free rabbit from the location and found the animal was sick.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Deon Washington said the rabbits will have to be removed in several trips because local authorities don't have the resources to remove them all at once.

Washington said the owner of the property called for help controlling the number of animals and some will be up for adoption at the Gwinnett County animal shelter. Washington said most of the animals were in good health. He said the owner was not in violation of any animal control ordinances and will not be cited, even though animal rescue groups have called for animal cruelty charges against the owner of the business.
